Alastair - Borders Customer Service November 08, 2011 Updates!

The recent update to the operating system for the iPhone has caused temporary difficulties with the iPhone apps. We sincerely apologise to those affected and have a workaround for you to use.

This workaround to allow you to read your Borders eBooks on Apple mobile devices is to load them on by using iTunes in conjunction with some free eBook management software. The first step involves downloading the eBooks to your computer using Adobe Digital Editions and the second step involves using an app on your device entitled Bluefire Reader. To assist with this process we have compiled an online guide, which should only take a few moments to follow. Simply click here to access the guide.

If you encounter in using this guide or with any of your Borders eBooks, please let us know by contacting us.  We will need to know of any error messages that appear on your screen, which will allow us to determine the cause of any problems.

Alastair - Borders Customer Service Jan 16 Frequently Asked Questions - Adobe Digital Editions, Sony Reader, eInk devices

Some Sony customers have reported that the font size is very large on some eBooks and we have been testing all reported eBooks and have found that the problem is with the Sony software.  Sony have acknowledged this issue and recommend completely removing the existing copy of all affected books form the Sony Reader and software and downloading them again. The process to undertake this is listed below if you are not familiar with it:

1) Delete the problematic item for your Reader software on your computer. Simply click on the book to be deleted and then press the DELETE key on your keyboard and then acknowledge that you wish to delete this item.

2) We now need to delete the faulty download that the Sony Reader software has installed on your computer prior to re-attempting the download. To delete the old file look here:

PC USERS: If you are using Reader for PC please open 'MY COMPUTER or COMPUTER' and look in the following directory: My Documents > My Books

APPLE MAC USERS: If you are using Reader for Mac then please open 'FINDER' and then look in this directory: Documents > My Books

3) SYNC your Sony Reader to update the device.

4) You should now download a new copy of the deleted items from our website.

5) Once the download has finished, SYNC your Reader device again.

If you continue to encounter an error please repeat the process. This problem relates only to Sony software and Sony Customer Support on 1300-137-669 or by visiting the link below: http://www.sony.com.au/section/contactus

We have now released our revised version 3.7.2 iPad and iPhone apps that are fully compatible with the new Apple iOS 5 operating system.   Please check the App Store to see if you have updates pending.  To confirm which version you have installed, simply open the ‘SETTINGS’ app and then select ‘BORDERS’ listed under ‘APPS’.  If the version number displayed is 3.5.4 then please update.

You should always restart your device after updating software, leaving it turned off for a few seconds before restarting it.
